HALF SCALE ART DECO VIGNETTE

This stylish Art Deco display is done in black and white with touches of reds. It is made to hang on a wall or placed on a shelf with an easel. Starting with a pre-assembled structure, students create a marble look floor and beautiful built-in fireplace. Paneled walls, arched windows and a stunning skylight will also be added. Students will also upholster two streamlined Art Deco chairs. A poster specifically created for Chicago International and palm by Mary Huffer will be included. Add the picture frame picture frame provided and they will walk away with a work of art!

MARY'S MARTINI CHAIR

In this workshop students will assemble the frames and upholster this fun and very colorful one inch scale streamlined Art Deco chair. The variety of color combinations provided will be endless! Students will also receive an additional chair kit to build on their own once they have learned how to put it together in class.

GUILD SCHOOL

Castine, Maine
June 12 through June 18th, 2010
Two workshops:

ART DECO LEATHER CLUB CHAIR

In this workshop, participants will learn all aspects of making this wonderful chair. Students will learn to cut the wood used to construct the frame. Once the frame is assembled, the students will learn ‘beyond the basics’ upholstery techniques using either ‘aged’ maroon or pristine black leather. Participants will prepare the wood for the arm insets and attach them to the chair for a finishing touch! The goal of this class is not only will the students leave with a finished chair, but they will also depart with the knowledge need to create their own chair from start to finish.

ARTS AND CRAFTS FOLDING SCREEN

In this class students will learn how to paint and ‘grout’ the design on the three etched panels to create a striking effect. The colors shown here will be provided, but if students would like another combination they are free to bring their own acrylic craft paints. When the painting and ‘grouting” is complete they will go on to cut the wood needed to construct to panels. Once the panels are complete, a stain and finish will be applied and brass hinges will be added.
